Hillingdon Council launches Blue Badge amnesty to reduce fraud
Hillingdon Council has initiated a Blue Badge amnesty to combat disabled parking permit fraud. From November 18 to December 2, residents can return expired or misused Blue Badges without facing penalties. The council emphasizes that this initiative aims to ensure parking privileges are reserved for those who genuinely need them.
Residents are encouraged to return Blue Badges that have expired, belong to another person, or are no longer necessary. Collection boxes are available in the reception areas at the Civic Centre in Uxbridge, Botwell Green Library, and Northwood Hills Library.
The council has prosecuted 11 individuals for Blue Badge fraud in the past year, each receiving a fine. This amnesty provides an opportunity for those misusing badges to return them without repercussions.
This initiative coincides with Fraud Awareness Week (November 17 to 23), during which the council is raising awareness of common types of fraud and encouraging residents to report deceptive activities.
By participating in this amnesty, residents contribute to maintaining the integrity of the Blue Badge scheme, ensuring that parking concessions are available to those who need them most.
