Edinburgh couple’s blue badge stolen from car amid possible return of widespread thefts in the Parkgrove area
A recent incident in Edinburgh’s Parkgrove area has raised concerns about a resurgence in Blue Badge thefts. On the night of November 13, 2024, Janice Scott’s car, parked on Parkgrove Terrace, was broken into, resulting in the theft of her husband’s Blue Badge. The passenger side window was smashed to access the badge.
Janice’s husband, aged 74, relies on the Blue Badge due to severe lung problems and mobility issues. The theft has significantly impacted his ability to engage in activities like photography and shopping, as he depends on accessible parking. Replacing the badge is expected to take 8 to 12 weeks, during which time he will face increased challenges in mobility.
This incident is not isolated. Another resident, Alison Weston, reported a similar theft on the same night, despite having lived in the area for only six months. These events have led to fears of a return to the spate of Blue Badge thefts that occurred in the area a few years ago.
Blue Badge thefts not only cause financial burdens due to vehicle repairs and replacement fees but also severely disrupt the daily lives of those who depend on them for mobility. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities to help curb this troubling trend.
