North Somerset Council Takes Action Against Blue Badge Abuse

Since the beginning of 2024, North Somerset Council has stepped up its efforts to tackle misuse of blue badges, taking action against 40 individuals for improper use of these permits.

Council’s Stance on Blue Badge Misuse

Councillor Mark Canniford, North Somerset Council’s Executive Member for Spatial Planning, Placemaking, and Economy, emphasized the importance of protecting the integrity of the blue badge system:

“We take blue badge abuse very seriously at North Somerset Council. Blue badges exist to ensure those most in need can access essential facilities, as we recognize the challenges some people face when navigating town centres. Misusing a blue badge deprives those in need of parking spaces.”

He also highlighted the legal implications of blue badge abuse:

“If you use someone else’s blue badge when they aren’t in the car with you, or if the badge is expired, you’re breaking the law. This can lead to the badge being confiscated, and you could face fines of up to £1,000.”

North Somerset Council remains committed to cracking down on blue badge abuse to ensure that parking resources are available for those who genuinely need them.
