Essex County Council to use IEG4 platform for Blue Badge applications

Essex County Council is set to enhance its Blue Badge application process by implementing IEG4’s Concessionary Travel Case Management platform. This initiative aligns with the council’s disability strategy, emphasizing the significance of Blue Badge parking permits for individuals with disabilities. The new system is scheduled to go live in early December, replacing the current multi-form process to streamline and improve efficiency.

Robbie Watson-Levey, Essex’s Head of Customer Engagement, highlighted the necessity of this upgrade, stating that the existing system fails to meet residents’ needs. He emphasized that the new digital solution is crucial for providing an improved service amid rising demand for Blue Badge applications. The modern system aims to meet statutory obligations while enhancing the user experience for residents who depend on the Blue Badge for their independence.

In 2023, the council processed 43,000 Blue Badge applications, marking a 57% increase since 2019. This number is expected to rise further as the county’s population ages, underscoring the importance of an efficient application system.

The IEG4 platform is designed to streamline the application process by reducing manual tasks, allowing officers to focus more on assessing applications. This investment reflects Essex County Council’s commitment to responding to customer feedback and delivering an improved digital solution.
