Amnesty scheme aims to improve Blue Badge parking
Salford City Council has initiated a two-week Blue Badge amnesty, starting October 28, 2024, to address the misuse of disabled parking permits. Residents are encouraged to surrender expired or improperly used Blue Badges at council buildings, including Gateway centres, or via post. Following the amnesty, from November 11, the council will intensify enforcement efforts, with individuals found misusing badges facing substantial fines and potential criminal records. Councillor Barbara Bentham emphasized the scheme’s importance in ensuring that parking privileges are reserved for those with genuine needs, thereby supporting their independence. The Salford Disability Forum has expressed support for the initiative, highlighting its potential to significantly benefit legitimate Blue Badge holders.
