‘It needs to stop,’ resident fuming as ‘disrespectful’ drivers hog disabled bays
A resident of Wrexham has expressed frustration over the misuse of the Island Green retail park’s car park, particularly by individuals using it as a drop-off point for Wrexham Central railway station. The car park, managed by Euro Car Parks, has been a source of contention due to its enforcement policies. In December 2018, automatic number-plate recognition cameras were installed, leading to fines for drivers who did not pay, even if they were only dropping off or picking up passengers. This resulted in a planned protest in mid-2019 and calls for a boycott of the retail park. In response, a 20-minute grace period was introduced for drop-offs and collections. However, concerns persist regarding the clarity of signage and the maintenance of parking ticket machines, with some drivers reporting fines despite attempting to pay. Local businesses have also reported a decline in customers due to these parking issues.
