Young Wigan Man Fined for Blue Badge Fraud
A 23-year-old Wigan motorist has been handed a hefty fine for attempting to avoid parking fees by using a stolen or fake disabled Blue Badge. Rahman Ali, of Prestt Grove, Worsley Mesnes, appeared before Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court, where he admitted to fraudulently displaying the badge in a Ford Fiesta at a pay-and-display car park on Major Street, Manchester, on August 17 last year.
The badge did not belong to Ali, and the fraudulent use of the document landed him with a total penalty of £556, covering a fine, court costs, and a victim surcharge—far exceeding what the parking fee would have cost.
The case serves as a reminder that misuse of Blue Badges is a serious offense and will be met with strict penalties to protect the integrity of the system and ensure that accessible parking remains available for those who genuinely need it.
